 “Hard news to op-ed: Becoming a community journalist” Led by Will Shoemaker Saturday, March 7. 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. Are you a subject-matter expert with an opinion you believe deserves to be heard? Or do you have an idea for a story in the community that you’d simply like to tell? Learn to give yourself a voice in community matters in this course which will cover the basics — including the differences between news, feature and opinion articles. Gunnison Country Times Editor Will Shoemaker also will offer insight on key aspects and approaches to these articles which appeal to editors. And attendees will learn how to write a well-researched, properly structured opinion piece on a pressing topic in the community. $30/student/workshop, $23.50/member. All 5 workshop pass: $120/pass, $102/members pass. (See below for workshop series.)
