 The 41st Golden Marmot Awards Crested Butte Mountain Theatre is hosting the 41st annual Golden Marmot Awards, February 3rd, 7 to 10 pm. If you have not voted yet, you have until tomorrow, Feb. 2 to cast your vote for prestigious awards such as Best Actor and Actress, Best Tech, Best Director and more. Join us for this year’s awards to celebrate so much history and the ongoing tradition of community theater at the Mallardi. Eric Ross, thespian and ham, wrote of the theatre, “1972 was a groovy time in Crested Butte. The town was tiny, rents were cheap, the streets were dirt, the air was coal-dusty, dogs ruled, a gold ski pass was $125, and love was everywhere. Only one thing was missing: live theatre. And so it began.” CBMT began to realize that it was important to recognize the hard work and dedication of the community who made theater possible and so a new party was born. The Golden Marmots began in 1982, taking inspiration from the Tony Awards, and features all the glitz and glamor that a mountain community can muster. The awards were “Do-It-Yourself” modge-podge golden statues based on the squirrel with its tail removed, therefore giving the fragile statue the appearance of our local mountain mascots, the marmots. Now, CBMT celebrates 51st year of outstanding performances from the people who call Crested Butte home. This theater has welcomed everyone from the trained actor to the first time player, artists, customers, and tech geeks, building friendships and memories that last a lifetime. Tickets to attend the event range from $15 for seniors and students, $25 for general admission and all Cast and Crews from ‘23 get in for free! Purchase online at crestedbuttemountaintheatre.org.
